Everyone Shed Happy Tears When This Senior Cat Got Adopted
Muffy the cat has spent the most of her life in and out of shelters. She has a clipped ear, indicating that she was once part of a capture and release program before getting up at Fayette Friends of Animals in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. She was fostered for a short time after arriving at the shelter, but she was soon returned — and there she lived for the next five years.

The 15-year-old cat was already a senior citizen when she came at the shelter, and she seemed to accept her fate as a permanent resident throughout the years. She got along well with the other cats, but she was always quick to take advantage of a free bed in the cat room so she could relax and observe in private. Muffy’s shelter workers were scared she’d never find a family – until one day, when someone took note of her.
Scarlett Wable was on her way to the shelter with her children, who were giving contributions they had gathered, when the staff invited them on a tour. When they entered the cat room, Wable noticed Muffy, who was snuggled up in one of the prized cat beds, and enquired about her.

“Staff were fearful she would never be adopted because she is a senior cat, missing teeth, has a wounded ear, and moves rather stiffly,” Wable told The Dodo. “She wasn’t the most popular with guests, but the staff clearly had a warm place for her.” They expressed their concern that she would spend the rest of her life without a family to adore.”
When Wable walked over to pat Muffy, she instantly began purring, and although though she had a great connection with the senior cat, she did not apply to adopt her that day – she already had seven cats and a dog waiting for her at home.

Wable came to the shelter a few months later to pick up some volunteer applications and to see Muffy in the cat room once again. Wable couldn’t take the thought of her still being there, living out her golden years at a shelter rather than a loving home. That night, she returned home and discussed with her family, and they all agreed that everyone deserved a family.
As a result, they determined Muffy had to be theirs.

Wable and her son returned to the shelter and walked straight up to the cat room to meet Muffy, who appeared unsurprised to see them.
“I saw her on top of a cage,” Wable explained. “Muffy extended out her paw, as if to say, ‘I’ve been waiting on you.’”
Wable submitted an application, which was granted a few days later. Muffy now has a family of her own.

Staff members came out to say goodbye and wish Muffy well on the day she was finally allowed to leave the shelter, and they sobbed tears of pleasure that their long-term resident was finally heading home. When Wable inquired about Muffy’s adoption cost, she was informed that it had been waived. They were simply so delighted for Muffy, and so grateful to Wable for finally seeing her.

Muffy’s mom had her favorite shelter goodies ready and waiting for her when she arrived in her new permanent home. She took her up to her own room so she could relax and get acclimated to her new surroundings before venturing out into the rest of the home, and it wasn’t long until Muffy was entirely at ease with everyone in her new family.
“She is a pro at greeting new cats, as seen by the utter lack of hissing, snarling, and other common reactions we’ve learned to expect when introducing a new feline,” Wable said. “She went up next to our roughly 17-pound Maine Coon and started eating his food. He was cool with it and eagerly welcomed his new pal.”

Muffy adores her seven new cat siblings and has become best friends with Khaleesi, the family’s border collie mix. She adjusted swiftly to her new surroundings and appeared to know that this was where she was supposed to be all along.

“She enjoys scratching up my daybed cover, sleeping on a huge pile of pillows, running around the house like she’s on fire, sleeping comfortably near the air-conditioning vent on the back of the couch, and long, leisurely strolls across my bed each night as I scratch her back and neck,” Wable explained.
Muffy was a much-loved part of the Fayette Friends of Animals family, so Wable has been providing frequent updates to the staff on how she’s doing in her new home. Every one of them is pleased to learn that Muffy is doing well with her new family.

“Everyone who had known her well there for over five years adored her and were brought to tears knowing she would spend the rest of her days with her very own family,” Wable added.
